Want Success In 2011? Start By Setting Goal

Motivation to achieve comes from having a clear target, developing a burning desire, creating an action plan, and allocating the resources to make the goal a reality. Goals that are too easy to achieve do not motivate. Goals that are not achievable de-motivate. Goals that cause the person to “stretch” are goals that motivate.

Whether we like it or not, goal setting is an integral and important aspect of all our lives. For some of us, this is a conscious process, however for many others it is an unconscious act that has very little direction or purpose. Some people may even be surprised to learn that they are actually setting goals on a daily basis. If you reflect back on your day, you will realize that you are actually setting and achieving an immeasurable amount of goals as you progress throughout your day. Some are relatively small and seemingly insignificant such as deciding what you will eat for lunch, while others are more important and relevant to your future endeavors.

Fundamental Rules of SMART Goal Setting
There are specific and fundamental rules to goal setting that are essential to understand before you move through the goal setting process. These rules will help to build the motivating foundations that will inspire and move you forward with a greater sense of purpose and clarity. It is easy to overlook these rules and not give them the attention that they deserve. Please do not neglect them. Your future fulfillment is dependent on this decision.

The following is a list of some of the essential rules that you must follow when setting and laying out your personal goals.

  1. Positively Written
  2. Having Personal Benefit
  3. Preserves Current Life Benefit
  4. Desirable
  5. Challenging
  6. In Everyone’s Interest.

The S.M.A.R.T.. goal setting process provides a little further clarity about the important aspects that you must focus on when setting and writing out your goals and objectives

Specific

Your goals must be specific. This means that you must point out with clarity and detail exactly what it is that you would like to achieve. The more detail the better. Here you are determining the WHAT part. The HOW part is a work in progress that you will develop at a later time.

Measurable

Your goals must be measurable. Spend time to develop a process that you will use to measure your progress towards the attainment of your objectives.

Attainable

Your goals must be attainable. Essentially you must believe that you can achieve your goals. If you have no belief backing up the goals you set, than your goals are nothing more than a fleeting wish and dream that you will long for without ever attaining your objectives.

Realistic/Relevant

Your goals must be realistic. This means that logically – given your time, money, resources and level of skill – that you will be able to achieve these goals successfully. If any of these is lacking, than you either need to improve your time, financial situation, skills and resources, or simply set a different set of goals.

Timed

Your goals must be timed. You must set a deadline for the achievement of your goals and objectives. Without setting a clear deadlines, you are essentially growing the seeds of procrastination within your mind. Don’t fall into this trap

Final Thoughts

“Without goals, and plans to reach them, you are like a ship that has set sail with no destination.” ~ Fitzhugh Dodson

Whether we like it or not, goal setting is undoubtedly a critical and fundamentally important aspect of all our lives. Without it, we will tend to be pulled by the seas and winds of change that will take us down unexpected currents – that may very well lead to many years of misery and unhappiness. However, if we choose to take control of the sails and harness the power of the winds to direct us towards a destination of our own choosing; than our futures may very well provide a deeper sense of fulfillment and satisfaction the world over.

I hope you enjoyed this post, and if you have any further thoughts, ideas, reflections or suggestions about this topic, than please feel free to comment below.

Money At Work Or Work For Money?

As we come to the end of the year, it’s good to have some handy financial tips in mind so that we can start the year in the right foot. In today article we’re gonna discuss on the title which was oftenly used in financial planning industry.

Money at work or Work For Money?
I bet all of you would say money at work. Yes, your answer is correct. But….do you have enough money to work for you? Let say you want to maintain a lifestyle of RM5,000 a month, you probably will  need to invest a capital of RM 1.2 million which should not fail to give you at least 5% returns a year. Let me ask you, how many of us do have RM 1.2 million of capital?

Hence, I would suggest we look and focus more on Work For Money at this early stage of creating our own financial freedom. This is because working for money is much more easier to do. You can actually get RM 5,000 a month easily if you work hard enough for money instead of cracking your head to try and accumulate RM 1.2 million in capital just to get your RM 5,000 a month.

Sometimes, the best advice is not the best thing to do …:-)

How To Beat The Bank At Their Own Game

All banks in the world offer credit facilities such as the most popular ones – credit card. These bank want you to think that it doesn’t really hurt you very much to owe them money. Remember this, the less money you pay to settle, the longer it’ll take you to get out from it.

For example :

If you make a minimum payment on a typical RM 10,000 card balance (at 18% per annual), it could cost you more than RM 1,800 in interest alone a year. If you keep going paying minimum like this, you would have paid the bank RM 18,000 in 10 years for your credit card interest alone.

So in order to beat these institution at their own game is to settle off your balances as fast as you can.

Other credit facilities which we all have is mortgage. Let say you have a mortgage loan of RM 100,000 for a 30 year tenure with an interest of 6.5% a year. If you put an extra RM100 into your mortgage monthly installment, you will save more than RM 50,000 in the bank interest and also shorten your repayment tenure to less than 20 years!.

These are few tips on how you can beat the bank. Remember this, bank makes money on charging you interest. The longer you serve your debt or loan, the more happy these banks will be.

Knowing Where To Put “X”

Recently, I met one of a sales guru in Hilton Hotel and he told me about the story of Charlie Steinmetz.

Charles Proteus Steinmetz

Legend has it that he was a prominent electrical engineer in the early twentieth century. Not long after his retirement, all of the engineers at General Electric had a problem. Although each was wise, they were unable to understand the complexity of the machinery. A call was made and Charlie Steinmetz came to the plant to offer his assistance.

Ol’ Charlie walked around the machine for a few minutes, just looking it over, not touching anything. After a few minutes, Charlie took out a piece of chalk, walked over and placed a large X on one particular part of the machine. When the other engineers disassembled the machine, they were amazed to find that it was exactly where the problem was. A few days later, the engineers received an invoice from Charlie for $10,000! This was a lot of money in those days, so they returned it to Charlie and ask that he itemize it. A few days later, they received an itemized bill which read:

Making one X mark – $1.00

Knowing where to place the X – $9999.00

End of the story

This is how most people in the world makes money. The “Know” always makes money from the “don’t know”. For example : We always go to car workshop to service or repair our car. Why? It’s because we don’t know how to repair the car!.

Therefore, if you know something a little bit more than the others, you too can make money. :-)

Cheers!

Co-Insurance Vs Co-Payment

There’s a lot of confusion in the industry regarding co-insurance and co-payment. So today, we will explain the differences.

Co-Insurance/Co-takaful

Co-Insurance or Co-takaful are the charges which customer have to share with insurance company. Normally 10% from the total medical bills. However, there is a capping on how much the maximum charges that the customer have to pay. Standard practice now days, the insurance company capping it at RM 10,000.

Let see how co-insurance works.

If your total bill is RM 80,000 , then you need to pay 10% from RM 80,000 which is RM 8,000. So meaning to say that RM 8,000 is the co-insurance.

Co – Payment

Co-payment is somehow different. Co-payment charges is 20% from the total medical bill. However, there’s a condition on when the company will impose  the charges. Insurance company will normally asked you to pay the co-payment charges when you use the Room & Board which is higher from the one you entitle for.

As an example :-

Mr. Wong buy a medical card with Room and Board of RM 150 per day or two bedded room. During his admission to the hospital, he requested to upgrade his room to a single bedded room which cost him RM 200 per day. In his 3 days admission, the total bill is RM 20,000 and he was been imposed a 20% co-payment which is RM 4,000.

The reason Mr Wong been imposed a co-payment is because he upgraded his room to single bedded whereby his entitlement is only RM 150 or two bedded.

Which is better?

The truth is co-payment is better than co-insurance. This is because the clients can avoid paying the co-payment as long they stick within their entitlements. Whereas co-insurance, you are forced to pay that 10%. The conclusion is say no to co-insurance!
